Additional information:
We consider the Buckeye Showdown RecruitFest the best college recruiting tournament in the Midwest. We have 31 fields in one complex ( so the coaches don't have to run from complex to complex - thus insuring the college coaches can be at your field). It is the largest complex in the United States and last year 220 teams ( from 13 different states and Canada ) enjoyed the exposure to well over 100 college coaches who had registered to be in Columbus that weekend. Some of the best teams in the Midwest (and beyond) will be in Columbus that weekend, and that will bring in the maximum # of college coaches. And we have tried to keep the cost of the tournament reasonable - it is not the outlandish entry fee that some recruiting tournaments charge. We want every team to be able to take advantage of a true recruiting tournament. Fastpitch Showdowns is also excited to announce that we will host a "Player Development and Recruiting Clinic" on Thursday, July 9 before the Buckeye Recruitfest Showdown. We will have over 25 college coaches and assistants in attendance to instruct the players on the skills that college coaches are looking for in potential recruits, followed in the afternoon by actual games coached by the college coaches (while still giving them instructions). This concept is being done in other parts of the country, and we are proud to offer it to the players in the Midwest. In addition to the instructors, there will be college coaches in attendance observing the clinic and games looking for recruits. It is completely separate from our All Star games, but the combination of both events will certainly increase the time the athletes can show off their potential and interact with the college coaches. There will also be skills testing of all NFCA required variables (including Zepp testing) as this is being asked for more and more by the college coaches. And the results will be available throughout the tournament and will be emailed directly to all college coaches in attendance. Also the girls will be able to purchase their own video with actual college coaches instructing them, which they can use in their recruiting video. The clinic will be optional and there will be a separate cost. Registration information and registration link will be posted February 1st. Colleges sending coaches as instructors will also be posted beginning February 1st and will be updated as additional schools confirm. After the camp during the day on Thursday, on Thursday night there will be All-Star games. The All-Star games consist of up to 4 of the best players from each team nominated by their coaches, so the caliber of play is very good and the caliber of recruiting is also very good. The All-Star games will be coached by college coaches/players, if possible, which makes it very enjoyable for the girls. And the girls really enjoy meeting and playing softball with girls of similar interests from different teams and different states. Many softball friendships are formed -- and some of the girls even might end up playing for the same college ! Then starting Friday morning, games start and we use the same tournament format that is used by the NFCA in their Top Recruit tournaments in Florida and Texas. This format was designed by college coaches for college coaches so that they could get the best look in the best situation for recruiting players. First of all, before each pool play game there will be a skills demonstration by each team (basically infield/outfield practice). Each team will play 3 pool games, and each pool game is important because if you don't win your pool, you will not be eligible to win the tournament. We do this because the college coaches requested that they really would only like to see the players compete in games that are meaningful. Each pool game will be 90 minutes long as we feel it gives the girls a longer chance for exposure and a better chance to enjoy a full game. Then each team will play 2 bracket play games in a super pool against like finishers from different pools. Again the college coaches are not real concerned about who ultimately wins the tournament -- but again they requested that they would like to see the teams against equal competition. This should assure that. And the winners of each super pool will receive ribbons. There are several college coach amenities at the tournament to make it better for the college coaches. Each field will have a separate tent, table, and chairs behind the backstop for the exclusive use of college coaches. Also each dugout will have plastic brochure holders for your team/individual profile sheets ( there will also be tables set up at headquarters for this information). Each college coach will also have electronic access, as well as paper access, to the player profile book. And each player in the tournament will be required to wear a recruiting bib - which will be furnished to her. We will also have a golf cart shuttle service available for all the college coaches to go between fields. And we will pay extra so that all fields will have temporary homerun fences, as again this is what the college coaches requested so that they could see the girls perform in a real college like atmosphere. So again if your primary purpose for attending the tournament is to win the tournament, then this tournament might not be for you ( although you certainly can win it). Because in order to attend the tournament your team will be required to fill out the player profile sheets to get the coaches the proper information they need in a format they can use. And your players will also be requested to contact the college coaches of the colleges they are interested in and let them know they will be at the tournament. We can guarantee that there will be college coaches at the tournament, but with 31 fields they probably won't be at your game UNLESS YOUR PLAYERS HAVE CONTACTED THEM. But if your primary purpose for attending the tournament is to get the best college exposure of any tournament this side of the Sparkler/Fireworks in Colorado, then this is the tournament you want to attend in 2015, no matter what state you are from. So we feel the combination of the recruiting camp , 31 fields in one complex with over 200 recruitable teams, All-Star games, a tournament format set up for recruiting by college coaches, skills demonstrations, and a sincere desire by the participating teams to let the college coaches from the colleges they are interested in know what is happening, the stage is set to go that will lead to your best recruiting experience in 2015.
